Chapter 5
Recap: "Stay indoors, General. Please." he said very seriously. You dipped your head in a simple nod to show you understood. Indeed, there would be no going outdoors for you today...
"Saya, I forgot to ask, why were you in the rain the other day?" Roy asked, coming up behind you. You jumped again.
"Dammit, Roy! Don't sneak up on me like that! Between you and Shun I'll have had an ulcer before I reach the age of 20!" you growled. He shrugged, but was unwavering in his quest for answers.
"I need to know, Saya."
"DON'T CALL ME THAT!!! I'M NOT TELLING YOU ANYTHING!!!" you bellowed, your stubborn side getting the better of you. Well, it was Roy's fault for calling you Saya! That idiot didn't deserve said honor!
"Please? I'll give you whatever you want!" he coaxed. You crossed your arms and stuck up your lower lip to symbolize your determination to ignore his bribes. "I swear not to call you Saya for a week." Your ears twitched slightly at this, but you did not otherwise indulge him. "Two weeks." Your eyes darted to his, then back, all very quickly. "Three weeks, and--"
"Make it four and you've got yourself a deal." you bargained, cutting off whatever else he had to say.
"Okay then." he agreed, and you shook hands to seal the deal.
"To tell you the truth, the only reason I was out in the rain was due to orders from a higher-up." you started slowly, unsure of how much you should reveal.
"What?!?! How high up could they be?!?!" Roy stormed, waving his arms around for emphasis.
"Führer President King Bradley." you admitted. The source of your previous reluctance was your oath to the Führer, promising not to reveal who exactly had given you the orders. Namely, the Führer himself. Roy's pale face and disbelieving eyes were another source, however...
"THE FÜHRER?!?!" you flinched slightly, his loud outburst taking you by surprise.
"Well, yeah. The only other person who has the authority to give me orders is Haruko, and he's in...Liore, I think." you asserted carefully. Roy still looked...upset, though. "C'mon, Nii-san. I'm alive, and relatively healthy. No harm done." you had to squeak the last part. In a blur of motion, Roy had picked you up by the collar of your uniform, holding you a foot off the ground as he forced you to look him in the eye.
"'No harm done'?! 'No harm done'?!?! Do you have any idea how worried I was?! Do you, Sayaka?!?!" he ranted, causing you to shrink back with fear.
"Put Brigadier General Mustang down, Colonel," a deadly serious voice commanded. You turned your head to see Shun standing with a gun aimed at Roy.
"Shun! Don't shoot my older brother, fool!" I ordered him. He didn't lower the gun, or even acknowledge that you'd said anything.
"Colonel Nagana, drop the gun now." an infuriated Hawkeye commanded Shun. You'd almost forgotten about Shun and Roy being the same rank...
"Unhand me, Roy." you said quietly. You couldn't see the emotion in his eyes; they were covered by his dark bangs as he set you down.
"Sayaka...I..." he trailed off, unable to continue. When he looked up, you could see tears streaming down his face. And thus he embraced you, similar to earlier in the hospital. But this time...it was more meaningful.
"It's okay, Roy. I understand." you comforted him softly, stroking his back soothingly. He continued to cry into your shoulder, an extremely unusual occurance for him. You could only hope no one had seen....
Winry's POV (XD sorry i just couldn't resist after a line like that!)
"Uh...Ed...is it just me...or is someone fighting in these very halls?" I asked ((first person for Winry...I think Ed'll change back to that too, 'cause I can write thoughts more clearly that way, but Roy is still second person)) Ed quizically. He gulped, appearing to recognize the voice. I stomped my foot impatiently. "ED!" I yelled in his face. He straightened, and began to apologize profusely.
"That sounded like Sayaka...she gets really pissed when Roy calls her Saya." he explained, seeming nervous and twitchy the entire time.
"Well, let's go see what's up!" I suggested passively, ignoring Ed's look of sheer terror. Instead, I grabbed him by the hood of his coat and dragged him along with me. All the more fun for Ed if I got to drag him into things for a change...
When we reached the area where the siblings were fighting, I ducked into a hall, bringing Ed with me. "Keep quiet!" I cautioned him as we peered around the corner. Roy was holding the girl from the hospital by the collar of her shirt. Some guy had a gun aimed at Roy, and Riza had a gun aimed at the guy. What the hell?!?!
"Unhand me, Roy." the girl, Sayaka, whispered. I could barely hear her, she was so silent...
"Sayaka...I..."Roy didn't finish his sentence as he set his sister down. Then he hugged her. Okay, weird beyond weird.
"It's okay, Roy. I understand." Sayaka assuaged him, acting as if she was calming a small child. Sobs could be heard from the sorrowful Roy. It was rather....grotesque. Yet no one moved, seeming to be paralyzed by this sudden change in events.
"Uh...hello?" Ed greeted them, stepping out into the hall before I could snatch him back.
"E-Ed, I mean, Edward, I mean, Fullmetal, Aaahh, whatever, what are you doing here?!?!?!" Sayaka demanded, a perma-scowl on her face.
"It wasn't me! Winry dragged me down here!!!" he wailed, ratting me out. Sayaka's head snapped towards me, the lights giving her hair a sleek look. I hadn't noticed before, but the resemblence she bore to her brother was astonishing. They even had the same midnight blue eyes...
"You! I should have you arrested for all the trouble you've caused!!!" she fumed at me, pushing a tearful Roy away. And she thought I was bipolar!
Your POV
After shoving Roy off, you continued to stand before Winry, nearly foaming at the mouth with rage.
"You can't do that!" she protested.
"Yes, I very well can! You're not even a ranking officer in the military, I have complete control over you and Fullmetal!" you boasted proudly. Both Ed and Winry shot you a glare; you hadn't mentioned Roy, and he was too busy sobbing about how you shunned him anyway.
"Uh...What's going on here?" a very badly-timed Al asked. Like reflex or something, Winry sent a wrench flying his way. You had to duck in order to avoid getting hit by it.
"Hey! Watch where you aim that thing!" you snapped, covering your head with your hands. ((at the moment, the scene looks like you facing Ed and Winry; Shun, Riza, and Roy to your left; Al is behind you))
"W-Winry?!" Al stammered, looking pretty dang frightened for a suit of armor. You could empathize with him there, though. This Winry freak had to go. Now.
"H-hey! Where do you think you're going?!" Ed and Winry asked in unision as you sped off in the opposite direction. Once again, papers were sent flying with your tremendous speed. Satisfied that no one was pursuing you, you slowed to a walk, and slipped into a random office.
"Long time no see, Sayaka!" a painfully familiar voice greeted you. A sense of dread overcame you as you turned to face...
and i end it once more! whose office are you in?! or is it...*****? only time will tell...R/M, please rate or i won't know if people like this story...although i'll probably continue writing it anyway. message ideas please, as i mentioned in my most recent journal, i need some filler type things, and more major events. if you send me an idea, it'll probably get used! ^_^ thanks for reading! sayonara! I recently noticed something about the amount of Japanese i know...the only reason i know what the word "kowaii" (possibly kowai, not to be confused with kawaii) means (it means scary, or frightening) is because Yuki kept repeating it in Vampire Knight. weird.
Chapter 6
Recap: "Long time no see Sayaka!" a painfully familiar voice greeted you. A sense of dread overcame you as you turned to face...
...Maes Hughes. You'd managed to avoid him for a week now, but he was back...and by the looks of it, heavily armed with pictures to prove his parental obsession with Elicia.
"H-Hughes...where did you come from?!" you asked mildly, slowly backing towards the door. Before you could make your escape, Hughes was behind you, and a picture of Elicia was in your face.
"Look at Elicia! Isn't she the cutest little angel you've ever laid eyes upon? Huh?! Huh?!?!" he demanded excitedly. He could've just said, "Isn't she the cutest?" without all the extra detail, noticeably.
"Uh, I--"
"I KNOW!!!! SHE'S MAGNIFICIENT!!!! A HEAVENLY GIFT BESTOWED UPON GRACIA AND I BY THE GODS!!!!" he declared, cutting off what you where about to say.
"Um, I wouldn't--"
"OH, WHAT AN ADORABLE CHILD SHE IS!!!! AN INNOCENT ESCORT OF KAWAII CHIBI-NESS!!!!!!" he announced, interupting you once more. At this point he was babbling at such a speed you couldn't get a word in edgewise. The perfect opportunity for you to make your escape.
Hughes continued to gush over several other pictures as you cautiously slid back out of the door, shutting it as quietly as you could. When you peeked through the window, Hughes was still waving pictures around, talking to the air. It looked...so funny...
Peals of laughter echoed through the hall as you slowly walked back to your quarters. You were still laughing when you reached the door leading outside, but the moment your hand made contact with the handle, the laughter stopped. Rain was pouring down on the otherside of the doors. You'd have to stay inside today. Frustrated, you turned to go confront Hughes, who'd delayed your departure. Hughes was standing in front of you, an unusually serious expression on his face. Well, that was fast.
"Bye, Chibi Roy." he snickered, pushing you forcefully through the doors. You were unable to bring yourself to a halt as you tumbled down the stairs, landing in the middle of the street. The rain prevented you from moving, just as a car happened to be speeding towards you, its tires screeching as it tried to stop. The last concious thought you had before the car rammed into you was, "Not again...dear God this is going to make Shun so mad at me..."
Shun's POV
I stood at the General's bedside. Now I understood how it felt to attend a funeral...though this was really more like a viewing. None of the doctors could offer a shred of hope, just the same diagnosis over and over; there's nothing that can be done. They already had her on bypass. When Roy decided to pull the plug, Sayaka would undoubtedly die. I couldn't help but puzzle over what had happened.
Why was the General outside?! She couldn't have been stupid enough to go outside. Not after a lifetime of avoiding going into the rain. Was she pushed out into the middle of the road? Drugged to forget her weakness? But who could've done either of those?
So far I had a long list of suspects, but most of them had alibis, and some, like Roy, were just plain ridiculous. Still, there was a list;
1.Me. Ok, I knew I was no where near General Mustang, so that was out.
2. Roy Mustang. He was her older brother, and I'd witnessed some pretty intimate sibling moments between the two. Not him.
3. Edward Elric. Fullmetal was a possibilty, because he didn't have an alibi. And he had a motive. The only problem was he didn't sound like that kind of person.
4. Alphonse Elric. Fullmetal's little brother wouldn't do that, and he was with me at the time.
5. Winry Rockbell. Today was the first time she and the General'd met, but they already hated each other. Winry didn't have an alibi, and with the way she threw wrenches at everyone in sight made her a definite suspect.
6. Roy's entourage; Jean Havoc, Falman, Kain Fuery, and Breda. They wouldn't dare.
7. Riza Hawkeye. Nope. She wouldn't betray the Colonel's sister.
This list could be shortened to 1.Winry Rockbell and 2.Edward Elric. I'd interrogate them after visiting hours were over. For now I'd just stay by Sayaka's side. Even if she didn't know it, I'd be there for her, just like I always was.
Ed's POV (me: you're about to die in the hospital, so I can't do your POV yet...you'll have to make do with Eddie!)
I was minding my own business, talking to Al in a peaceful manner, when that Shun guy assaulted me.
"Where were you when the General got hit?!" he asked, pacing back and forth in front of me.
"Hit?! What do you mean, hit?!" I demanded. No one had said anything about getting hit.
"Don't play dumb with me! Someone pushed Sayaka into the middle of the street, where she got hit by a car!" he barked, continuing to pace Sherlock style.
"I didn't know that! I was sleeping!!!" I defended myself. It was true; I'd had a large meal in order to distract myself from Winry's presence, and had ended up falling asleep afterwards. "Why don't you just ask her when she wakes up?" I suggested, turning to leave. Shun's hand on my shoulder brought me to a halt.
"She's not going to wake up." he choked out, his fiery red hair falling over his eyes. Al was the first to speak.
"Wh-what?!" he stammered. I didn't understand either. "not going to wake up"? Like, she was in a coma?
"They've already put her on bypass, so if Roy pulls the plug it'll all be over for her." Shun clarified. I managed to glimpse his eyes this time. What I saw in them frightened me.
"It wasn't me, Shun. I...I...it wasn't me..." That was all I could say. No other words had the ability to make it past my lips.
"I know. Come with me, I need you present while I'm interrogating the next suspect." he ordered me, dragging me along by the hood.
"Uh...Where are we going, exactly?" I asked nervously, fearful of his answer. He continued dragging me all the way out into the street and next door to the Military Hotel.
"Which room is your friend staying at?" he asked coldly. Wait, he thought Winry tried to kill Sayaka?! Sure she was a little violent at times, but she wouldn't kill somebody!
"It wasn't Winry!" I protested. He released his hold on my coat, making me fall. I landed rather hard, and my breath came a little short for a moment.
"How can you be certain? She's violent, and holds hatred against the Brigadier General. It's a definite possibility." he stated in the same dead, emotionless tone.
"What if...what if it was the homunculi?" I whispered.
"The General has never encountered them, they have no reason to murder her." he disagreed, dismissing my theory with a shrug of his shoulders. This guy was so annoyingly stubborn...and strangely protective of Sayaka.
"Maybe she has, and just didn't tell you about it." I hypothosized. His fist jerked out and gave me a hard punch to the face. I touched my cheek softly with my left hand. It stung at the touch. That bastard!
"Oh no you didn't--"
"Freeze where you are, Fullmetal." a voice I hadn't heard in a while commanded, ringing with the usual authority.
O.O who's there now?!?! you'll just have to wait a while...but I'll try to get the next one out soon! ^_^ i promise! *crosses fingers behind back* you: yeah right...you're not that consistent, Tobi. me: -__-' dang...you caught me...
Chapter 7
Recap: "Freeze where you are, Fullmetal." a voice I hadn't heard in a while commanded, ringing with the usual authority.
Your POV ((in this case, we aren't starting from the recap. you'll get it later))
You woke up in that hellish bright room again. It didn't take long for you to recognize it, since so little time had passed between now and your last incident in the rain. There was a particular burning sensation in your chest, making it feel like there was an earthquake in your heart.
"Uaht--" you choked on your words. A mask was on your face, attached to the tube some doctor stuck down your throat. What the hell was going on here?!?!
Your eyes flickered wildly, looking for someone to take this thing out. There was no one. Usually Roy would wait until you woke up...not even Shun was in here.
"So, as I was saying, we'll give you another day to make up your mind." a doctor's voice interupted the silence as he paused outside the door. For some strange reason, he didn't enter.
"I understand. Can I...can I see her?" Roy asked of him, unusually reluctant in doing so. Exactly how long were you out...?
As Roy walked stiffly into the room, you squeezed your eyes shut, wanting to know what was going on before you revealed your newly regained conciousness. Roy liked to "keep you company" while you were out of it by talking to you. Though he was basically talking to himself, he insisted you could hear him somewhere in your subconcious mind.
"Hello, Saya." he greeted you. It took every once of your (nearly nonexistent) self-control not to start screaming at him, if that was even possible with this mask/tube thing. "I know you can't hear me right now..." Wrong! Was this a funeral?! You could only hope you weren't about to be buried. "...but I want to tell you what's going on. This will probably be my last chance to make amends, after all. If I sign that form, they'll take you off bypass, and you'll die. I won't even get to talk to you one last time. It's all because of the stupid rain, and that idiot driver. Though I suspect Shun thinks it's something more, and I can't help but think he's right. If you were awake, maybe you could tell me. And...and...Saya, I just don't know what to do anymore!" he wailed, sounding more woeful than you'd ever heard him. Too choked up to continue, he walked over and squeezed your hand tightly. You were so tempted at that moment, wanting to jump up and give him a big hug. Your beloved older brother was sad, and you couldn't take it. However, in this vulnerable state you weren't able to reveal the truth to whoever'd pushed you into the rain in the first place, or they'd be sure to finish the job. No matter how much you wished to comfort your older brother, there were some things you had to take care of first.
The pressure on your hand vanished as Roy tore out of the room, bawling like a baby. You couldn't blame him, though. You'd feel the same if the situation was reversed.
You sat up stiffly, brushing the tears off your face. Now that Roy was gone, you had to find Shun, and demand answers. There was some sort of really crazy I love you going on here, and it was imparitive that you find out what! Upon standing, you found yourself wearing a hospital gown, the most inconvienent of garb. Changing was an issue, though, since you didn't exactly bring extra clothing specifically on days you got hit by a car. Looking back, there wasn't ever a time when you'd got hit by a car...making this a new problem associated with your weakness to the rain. Stupid Hughes...why'd the idiot push you? And what was up with that somewhat crazed grin on his face?! Hughes knew of your weakness to the rain, but he had no reason to push you into it. What the hell was going on here?!?!?
Sighing in your immense frustration, you exited the small hospital room. Deep in thought, you proceeded to wander out of the hospital (through a window; no idea how that happened) and onto the sidewalk. The people you passed looked a little surprised to see a hospital patient wandering outside of the hospital, and a few of them appeared to be calling 911 to come get you, but they were ignored. In a sort of daze, you came to a halt in front of the Military Hotel, with no recollection of how you'd gotten there. It was as if there was an invisible pull, dragging you here like a helpless puppet. That would also explain why you were walking through the doors, and onto the elevator. The receptionist didn't seem to notice you. Second floor, third floor, fourth floor, third floor, second floor. At last, the elevator stopped, and the doors opened to a scene you'd not been expected, never in a thousand years.
"Freeze where you are, Fullmetal." you commanded, your voice ringing with self-assured authority. Two heads jerked towards you. ((now do you get it? WTF, it wasn't raining five seconds ago!!! where i am, i mean))
"General...Sayaka!!!" Shun cried out, rushing towards you. He stopped about a foot away, confusion flashing across his face. Then, without a moment of hesitation, he wrapped his arms around you in a Roy-like hug. Very strange coming from a stoic guy like Shun.
"Uh, Shun...Can't...breathe..." you wheezed. He instantly released you.
"My deepest apologies, General." Shun stated quietly, looking away.
"Aw...s'okay, Shun!" you assured him, giving him a big bear hug. Meanwhile, Ed looked on...
Ed's POV
Okay, you were glad Sayaka'd broken up the fight before it turned more serious. But...hugging? Ick. No guy likes to watch anybody hugging. It's just not natural. Really, who likes to watch some sickeningly sweet emotional scene?! Disgusting!
Shuddering to rid yourself of the images plaguing your mind (namely, gushy emotional scenes from your past that somehow stuck with you), you turned to leave. A hand on your shoulder stopped you, however.
"Group hug!" Sayaka cooed, tugging on your sleeve. Hold on a sec. Sayaka, cooing?! Never!
"General...are you feeling okay? I mean, you just got hit by a car the other day..." Shun pointed out, as suspecting of her strange behavior as you were.
"Now that'cha mention it...I do feel kinda...woozy..." she drawled, before collapsing almost theatrically on the floor.
"C'mon Sayaka, quit messing around!" you sniffed, not believing her "act".
"Idiot! General! General, wake up!" Shun snapped urgently, shaking her small frame repeatedly.
"She's obviously faking!" you snorted, stubbornly crossing your arms.
"The General wouldn't fake something like this, dumbass! She's got a serious medical condition!" Shun hissed, barely turning his head to look at you.
"Sure she would. "The General" is a very manipulative bitch. So, she'd do that." you started, slightly annoyed at having to state the obvious all the time. "And anyway, what "medical condition"? As far as I know, she doesn't exactly seem sickly." you concluded, feeling confident that your logic was flawless.
"Stupid! Sayaka is a truly kind-hearted person! But she's also a military officer, and therefore can't show weakness to her subordinates! Even with her deteorating health, she makes an effort every day to get up and do her job!!!" Shun growled, sweeping Sayaka up into his arms and rushing out of the hotel. You didn't see where he went next, but your mind was to busy with other things to worry about it. What was Sayaka's medical condition? Roy never said anything about that. Was it a secret? Something so horrible you couldn't even imagine?! But then...what could it be? There was something strange about how rain seemed to come up so often when Sayaka was the topic of discussion. Was she...a mermaid?! That would explain why everyone was so secretive! Except...it didn't make any sense. Mermaids weren't real, Sayaka had some life-threatening condition, and Shun said she was nice of all things! Really, her, being nice?!? That was like vinegar and water, bunnies and evil, rabid bears! The two just didn't mix! Not now, not ever! Scientifically impossible! You would know, too. In your mind, everything was science. Even a puzzling mystery like this could be solved using one thing...science. That was how the world worked. Equivalent exchange, the laws of alchemy. It all depended on pre-set fundamentals. Nothing messed with the balance, and nothing would ever mess with the balance.

Your POV (it was Ed's before)
"Jeez, Ed! Don't drink so much! Aren't you underage, anyway?" you slurred, waving an empty bottle around. Whatever it had contained was now somewhere in your digestive system. The extremely drunk Ed didn't reply. Neither did (the also drunk) Shun. Instead, they began to blur, twisting and turning into colorful swirls. To you, the drunk girl who'd instigated the drinking, the swirls jarred one thought; pretty. But soon, those once entrancing colors got too bright, blinding you. They appeared to engulf everything, and the light seared your eyes.
"Stop the lights! MAKE THE LIGHTS GO AWAY!!!" you screamed your way into conciousness. "Eh? Where'd the bar go? And the lights?" you puzzled, baffled by their sudden disapperance.
"What lights?" a pesky looking nurse asked curiously.
"The colorful swirly lights. Shun, Ed, and I were at a bar, drinking, when everybody turned into swirly lights." you explained, your head clearing a little. That caused you to realize how ridiculous it all sounded.
"Must've been hallucinating, Miss." she clucked, going back to...operating on your not-there-but-then-suddenly-there neighbor.
"Whoa, lady, I don't think you should be doing that in here, I'm not exactly sterile..." you trailed off when the nurse grinned wickedly at you, pulling out another scalpel (from where, you didn't know--it kinda just appeared), and edging slowly towards you, like a scene from a horror movie. "This must be one of those evil-mind-controlling-doctor-makes-unsuspecting-nurses-kill-people horror flicks, right?" you reasoned, sitting up. Except you couldn't sit up, due to the restraints at your wrists, ankles, waist, and neck. "Now this is about as bad as it gets..." you grumbled to yourself, testing the restraints. They were steel, and sent tiny electric shocks coursing through you when you resisted. In other words, escape-proof. You waited in silent terror as the nurse drew closer and closer, until...she was gone. In her place, a school teacher in a classroom of little kids, about kindergarden level.
"Oh! Hello, there! I'm glad to see you could make it today, Saya-chan!" she greeted you cheerfully. The nickname was so girly it made you sick.
"Me too, Mrs.Callion." you found yourself saying in a young, childish voice. Disgusting! You wanted to wring this woman's neck, not agree with her!!! Arg!
"Do you need to go to the potty, Saya-chan?" she asked kindly, probably due to your twisted face.
"Yes!" you blurted, dashing out of the room.
"Well, it looks like Saya really had to go!" the teacher, Mrs. Callion, told the class as you darted away. Running down this hall and that hall, you finally came to a halt when it hit you. This wasn't your school. You'd gone to a school back East when you were in elementary school, and all the way through middle school, too. In the eighth grade, you'd joined the military, and were still in it to this day. So, you had no recollection of where the bathroom was in this unfamiliar territory.
"Okay, Sayaka, just chill for a sec. Pretend like you're up North at Fort Briggs, for survival training...scouting out Drachma's territory for your superiors in some crazy initiation process... where should I go first?" you addressed yourself, taking another right down some random hall. At the end, there was a bathroom. "Well, that was even easier than my training at Fort Briggs. No life-threatening blizzards or wildlife. Great!" you cheered, giving yourself a pat on the back. The sight before you when you stepped into the little girls room was not a friendly one, however.
"Well, if it isn't little Miss Teacher's Pet. How goes it, Saya-chan?" a cluster of intimidating (to your young self) third-graders confronted you.
"Not so well, actually. Some lousy SOB ((abbreviated 'cause you're currently a lil' girl--the clique trying to assault you got quite an earful, however)) stuck me in this lameass dimension, so I'm bored out of my effing mind. There's nothing to do when you're a teen stuck in a little kid's world..." you surmised, adding a dramatic sigh to express how drama-queen-ish you were feeling to day. Your blasé attitude was not mutual, though. These girls could not handle the weirdness of a petite little kindergardener cursing like someone three times her age, and talking about strange other-worldly stuff most kids don't really think about. They ran screaming, like chickens with their heads cut off! Or so you liked to think...really, though, had anyone ever actually seen a chicken running around with it's head cut off?! Certainly not you...
Whoa, what was up with the bright flashy lights?! And why were you...wet...? A swimming pool? No...the ocean! Letting out a piercing scream of terror, you flailed about in the water, searching desperately for land. Your weakness applied not only to rain, but large bodies of water. A shower was fine, but swimming was definitly out. Yet here you were, in the ocean of all places! It didn't taste that salty, though. And you weren't getting tired or anything.
"This could be ok. I never learned how to swim, so--why am I swimming?" you asked yourself, watching your body as it treaded the water masterfully. Not to mention the pretty fish swimming around...Well, this wasn't half-bad!
"Hey! Girl! Watch out for the pirahnas!" a little boy cautioned you. Pirahnas? Was that a bird or something? You got your answer as one of the "pretty" little fishies bit into your ankle, hanging on tight with its razor sharp teeth.
"Well, now I know what a pirahna is..." you reasoned as a whole horde of the monsters attacked. The water surrounding you turned dark, and fluffy puffs of the darkness drifted upwards...
...
"Charging! And...clear! Again! Charging! And...clear!" strong electrical currents ran up and down your torso. The energy you used for your lightning-alchemy reacted, nearly frying you. What kind of an idiot was using paddles on you?!?!?
"Hey! Stop! She can't handle electrical currents other than her own residing in her body!" Roy's voice shouted in protest. Someone mumbled something in response, but you didn't quite catch it.
"Roy...Where am I?" you asked, your voice rough for some reason.
"Saya!!! Saya, I'm so happy, you're okay!" he cheered, going for another hug. You shooed him away before he could dive at you, though.
"I thought you agreed not to call me that for four weeks!" you reminded him. Tears gathered in the corners of his dark eyes, so much like your own.
"Sayaka...you've been in a coma for four, total. I counted, believe me." Roy chuckled drily.
"Four what? Days?" you asked, confusion playing out on your face.
"Weeks, Sayaka." he corrected you. You slowly inched away from him.
"But...that's impossible! You're not real! Like everything else, you're not...real!!!" you shrieked, scrambling to get away.
"You're right. I'm not real." he smirked, shrinking. The person who stood in his place was most definitely not Roy. He was only a couple of inches taller than you, with long green hair, and snake-like purple eyes.
"Wh-who are you?!" you demanded fearfully, gathering the sheets of your hospital bed around you.
"Envy. Nice to see ya' again." he introduced himself simply, almost sounding polite.
"Again? But I've never seen you before in my life!" you disagreed, shaking your head furiously.
"Oh yes you have, 'Chibi Roy'." he snarled, like the nickname was some sort of proof. Maybe...it was...? There were a lot of people who'd called you 'chibi Mustang', or 'chibi Roy', and sometimes people even played Mustang Sally in your office, after dubbing Sally over with Saya. But recently...right before the...erm, accident, Hughes was the one who'd called you Chibi Roy.
"Are you saying...it was you who pushed me into the rain?" you asked, still a little bewildered by all of this.
"Yup! I'm glad you remember me, Saya. And don't worry...I'm sure we'll be the best of friends." he mock assured you, taking a couple of steps in your direction. Things weren't looking up for you today...
Chapter 9
Recap: "Yup! I'm glad you remember me, Saya. And don't worry...I'm sure we'll be the best of friends." he mock assured you, taking a couple of steps in your direction. Things weren't looking up for you today...
"I don't think that's such a great idea..." you said through gritted teeth.
"Really? 'Cause I think...it's a wonderful idea." he purred, encircling you like a fox that'd found a particularly tasty treat, and wasn't about to let it escape.
"Why are you targeting me of all people? I can't make the Philosopher's Stone for you." you warned him. It was true; your alchemy was too specialized for that sort of thing. You only created electrical shocks, not all of that "transmutation" stuff. It'd never held your interest, really. There was no reason for the homunculi to target someone like you. They'd never gone after Roy. None of this was making any sense...
"The other homunculi refuse to back me on this point, but if we get you, the Flame Alchemist will order Fullmetal Pipsqueak to come to your rescue. Pipsqueak's tincan brother will come with him, and as soon as we snatch the brother, Fullmetal Shrimp won't have any other choice than to cooperate. We came close to doing this before, but Scar prevented us from fully completing the Stone. That's why they don't agree with me; we failed the first time, why would it work now, right? Hmph. Fools. Anyway, he'll be all mine once he completes the Stone." Envy explained, still walking around in circles. Was this guy a complete idiot?! He'd just gone and told you his entire plan! Then again...criminals only revealed their "plans" to people they intended to "get rid" of. Which just plain sucked for you. All this trouble, all of your hard work, just to be killed off now, when you were so close?!? Hell no!
"That's the most cliché cliché I've ever heard, Envy, my friend. Go jump off a cliff, would ya'? It's not gonna kill you, but it'd make me feel better!" you said with a disinterested yawn.
"Aren't you a little concerned about getting killed?" Envy asked skeptically, stopping mid-step.
"Naturally. But all the stuff preluding to getting killed isn't very interesting, you know." you confided, scratching your head randomly. This guy needed to hurry up and kidnap you before those paramedics who'd been trying to fry you earlier came back...
"This isn't getting me anywhere. C'mon, I'm abducting you." he announced, beckoning for you to follow him as he walked out of the room.
"Why should I follow you? You're just going to kill me in the end. I can fight back if you attack me now." you pointed out, not moving an inch. He raised an eyebrow questioningly.
"IF that's your only issue with following a kidnapper, you're too hard-boiled for your own good. Are you even female?" he taunted.
"WHO ARE YOU CALLIN' A GIRL WHO LOOKS LIKE SOME GAY DUDE?!?!? I'M VERY FEMININE!!! VERY, VERY FEMININE!!!! JUST LOOK AT HOW COOL AND COLLECTED I AM!!!!!" you screeched.
"Are you sure there's nothing between you and Pipsqueak? Going by what I've seen of you so far, you're as immature and bitchy as he is..."
"I HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON WITH THAT DWARFISH MIDGET FREAK!!!! DON'T YOU GO SPREADING RUMORS LIKE THAT!!!! TAKE A GOOD LONG LOOK AT YOURSELF FIRST, GENDERLESS PALM TREE!!!!" you shrieked. This Envy guy was messing with the wrong General!
"Fine. Since I don't see the point in further pursuing the matter, I won't argue with you. And because you refuse to come quietly, I'll do this the old-fashioned way." Envy grumbled, sighing theatrically.
"If this is too much work for ya', feel free to leave." you hinted, waving towards the door.
"Naw. I think this is gonna be fun." he clucked, walking over to you.
"Whoa, whoa! Hold on there!" you protested, springing up off of the hospital bed and backing towards the wall.
"Don't mind me...just gonna kidnap you is all..." he snickered, trying to hit you over the head with something.
"What the hell?!" you growled. What kind of violent person tries to hit someone on the head with a lead pipe!?
He had you ducking out of the way again before he started aiming at your waist, making it very hard to avoid getting hit. "You *steps out of the way* are *steps out of the way* CRAZY!!!" you panted, running for the door. He followed in close pursuit, again trying to whack you over the head.
Running wasn't working so well for you; if you stopped to open the door, you'd be a goner. Turning on your heel to face Envy for a millisecond, you snapped your fingers loudly, not even bothering to gauge the amount of lightning you put into it. Apparently a lot. He got completely fried...
You shook your head disapprovingly and headed out of the door, only to be confronted by someone being rushed down the hall on a stretcher, nearly mowing you down in the process. Couldn't they at least watch where they were going with those things?! Somebody could get hurt...and it was very likely to be you at this rate. Anyway, the homunculus was probably going to wake up soon. It was so I love you hard to kill those things. They just kept coming back...
Someone brushed past you, jarring your shoulder.
"Hey, watch it pal!" you grumbled. A head of red hair turned to face you.
"S-Sayaka?!?!?" it asked, looking like it'd seen a ghost. Ah. Well, it was about time!
"C'mon Shun, we gotta get outta here before that thing wakes up!" you said hurriedly, grabbing his arm and dragging him down the hall.
"W-wait! How are you still alive after that?! The verdict was death!" he insisted, stubbornly clinging to the theory that you just had to be dead.
"Well, those doctors were obviously stupid. I'm alive, and if I'm going to stay that way, we have to go now." you hissed, tugging at his arm again. He didn't budge.
"But how--"
"Shun! Don't disobey orders from your superiors! That homunculus will wake up any time now!" you barked, throwing a stern look in his direction.
"Yes sir!" he replied, saluting you. You rolled your eyes a the formality, and ran off (this time without dragging him; you fully expected him to follow). And he did. Not surprisingly, really. It was times like these when you truly appreciated Shun's undying loyalty. A good guy to have at your side in your struggle to become Führer. Not romantically, of course. Just as a comrade in arms.
"So, General, what's this about a homunculus?" he asked, a little out of breath from running. You may be weak in the rain, but you certainly weren't under normal circumstances. You were much stronger physically than Shun. Though the fact that it was a clear, sunny day when you went through the Physical Exam for possible state-alchemists was very helpful, and had contributed greatly to your final score.
"Said his name was Envy. Rather short, creepy snake eyes, green hair. Sorta like a palm tree." you described, smirking a little at the palm tree comment.
"Why's he after you?"
"Leverage. Wants Fullmetal to make the Philosopher's Stone for 'im. You know, the usual. These homunculi never vanish for long before they're back on the scene." you answered calmly. The average person would probably freak out if the homunculi tried to abduct them. But you were far from what was considered "average", at least by society's standards.
"Ah. You got that right." he agreed, before falling silent. The only sounds were those one would expect to hear at a hospital. People talking, the beeping of heart monitors, the sound of an ambulance driving up...
"Let's go see who's hurt." you said suddenly. You didn't know why, but for some reason you had a very bad feeling about this.
"Huh? Why--" you didn't let him finish, darting towards the entrance of the hospital.
"Out of my way! Military officer, coming through!" you shouted over the noise of the crowd that'd accumulated. They glanced skeptically at you, and then turned back to the person being carried out on a stretcher. You stretched up onto your tiptoes, hopping up and down to try to get a good look at whoever it was. Finally, someone's strong arms lifted you into the air. Making a mental note to thank Shun later, you peered over the heads you now towered above. The patient on the stretcher was none other than...
"Uh...Shun...You can put me down now..." you muttered, utter failure washing over you.
"Huh? Ok...General...are you feeling all right?" he asked after setting you down. You glared at him, a dark aura surrounding you.
"Just peachy. This never happened, Shun. Forget. Everything. That just happened." you ordered him, your voice heavily threatening.
"W-what are you talking about, General?" he asked, going along with it.
"Good boy." you said, patting him on the head. He wilted a little, probably thinking you were acting childish. Well, as long as he kept his thoughts to himself...
"Don't you think you're acting a little childish, General?" You twitched. This guy...
"SHUT. UP." you roared, chasing him out of the hospital...
