I am moving to Indonesia and there is Black market all around me. My boyfriend and I bought a Slow Loris for around $40 bucks. I had no clue that those are vulnerable on the endangered species list. The sad part is if we let him go, they took out his K-9's and he was from Malaysia so I could not possibly get him back there and he needs his teeth to eat and survive . If I did not buy him he would have died in that bag he has been defecating himself in for months till death unless someone else bought him and to think it may have not been much better. I am not buying any more animals knowing this cruelty. I don't know how I was so naive... should I help that one? Or could not buying really help more? Its does not work like Western culture out there. They will keep poaching as any money is better than none.... it's not like the states where breeders will stop breeding if no one buys. So the major question is, if I buy birds that are from that region and let them go in front of these people to make a statement, will they survive? I am sure it depends on the "breed" I would think. I have not fully thought this through, but I would like your opinions as long as they are not negative. I really do want to help, and though I volunteer a lot, I would like to make my own impression amongst those people. When I say "those people" let me remind you that majority of them are hospitable and very kind. They have been generous and their culture has amazed me. I am not sure if all in the black market are naive; turn a blind eye, or just starving for money to eat themselves. I don't know, I am not wanting to talk bad about Indonesia because the people and the land is amazing and I choose to move there and there are bad people doing things like this and worst everywhere. I would just like to at least make a small statement to hope that I ignite some awareness of my own in the place that I happen to be going. Thanks for reading and replying!
