| Welcome to the world where there are friends- but really no friends at all.
I’m Alice Elverson, thirteen years old, eighth grade at Allison Welling Middle School. My school is like any other school. We have lockers, a cafeteria, classrooms and teachers. But we also have a secret. And that secret reader, you must find out. Our school is also like a world. A world of friends, people who you think are your friends and enemies. No one is neutral, as in not belonging to a clique. Everyone has a group and if you don’t, you belong to the group of people who are just them, abounded by their clique friends. I am not one of those people. Alice Elverson has never and will never be one of those people. I am part of the cool clique. I can be mean, bossy and evil and no one will say anything. You see, the cool/ higher up cliques can take away anything. We know people in certain places who can take you out of your connections classes, out of your club/team and out of your advanced classes with the super smart people. As you should be able to see, we have power. And, like the rest of the world, everybody wants power. How to get it is very hard. You must dress a certain way, talk a certain way, text during class or pass notes, be bossy, act stuck up, have awesome hair and teeth, not be in part of any weirdo clubs or be in orchestra or band. You can not like tech ed or computer science, you must always strive for perfection and attention, science and math are some of your least favorite subjects, you must be okay with cheating, make fun of people who are not high up, suck up to teachers, own a cell phone, break certain rules, enjoy shopping and fashion, always look at guys and be ready to flirt and much, much more. Must I list everything? Oh, a couple other things. You can’t own any rodents or reptiles (rabbits are fine), you must have an okay to awesome and cool looking house, you must have a credit card, not ever want to leave the cool people, be able to chat online and send e-mails and own a Twitter, Facebook or My Space page. If you do not, you can not obtain power. Another thing about our school. Most peoples parents or grandparents or aunts or cousins or uncles are famous. You must be able to show proof of that too. You can board at our school too. They have dorms that have a TV (with a cable or a dish), a good twin bed or day bed, some have a nice window and even fewer have a little balcony. Most cool people have a balcony. They (the dorms) have a microwave and mini fridge, two cabinets and a counter with bar stools. Our principal is totally cool and most teachers are like fashion models. Male teachers are in style too and homework is rarely assigned. Our school is special. Few people know about it. Allison Willing Middle School is on one of the Florida Keys. We have a dock, a beach, boats and rafts. There’s lots of sunbathing and water fights, plus we have ‘stores’. People from stores in Florida bring their stuff here, the principal buys it for people at our school and we have money to buy the stuff from the school. We also have classes in make up, fashion and modeling. If you go here you will most likely be famous or part of a famous group. Only amazingly cool, famous guardians let there children come here. We have about 450 kids in each grade; it varies, but is close to that number. Now, to the present. “Alice, over here!” I turn to see Michelle waving from a spot in the cafeteria by the windows. On one side of the cafeteria, where all in power sit, are huge, floor to sealing windows. The glass is absolutely beautiful. The ones at the two ends open (not the whole things, only the bottom) so that people can go out onto the big patio and eat. You can also sit on the flat roof of our school and eat lunch, breakfast and dinner (there are tables up there). Our school is totally amazing. It is a world in itself, separated from the rest of the United States and other continents and countries. One more thing. The CIA is on half the island too. So, about half or more (or all of us) are spies when we’re on land. That’s the cool thing. But I still haven’t revealed our secret yet. Reader, you must be guessing of all the incredible, amazing, interesting secrets my school might hold. Well, I’m just gonna leave you guessing. | |
