The sun was just a-setting,
the sky a rosy pink.
The clouds lined with gold,
and blue ribbon kept them linked.

The air a thick, deep purple.
The blossoms reflecting light,
when the great prince came riding-
Riding-riding-
when the great prince came riding, out of the shallow night.

His crown was not upon him.
Nor his royal coat.
His golden jewels had vanished,
but one gold necklace at his throat.

Any traveler who saw him,
would turn their eyes away.
Was he the horrible highwayman?
No one dared to ask his name.

The steed he road was brown,
no royal mark was seen.
His boots of a normal rider,
his breeches the exact same thing.

The girl he rode to wore this,
but she was the true thing.
A commoner by birth,
but her heart had golden wings.

This was why her lover,
risked his very being,
for the lowly girl who waited
seemed to be royal(ty) inside indeed.

He haulted his horse near her,
longing to see her face.
Her eyes was like his mothers,
beautiful in every way.

For hours they sat in silence,
their love a secret flow.
At dawn he swung onto his steed
and in pain said 'I must go.'

Her eyes were tearing pools
and she reached up for a kiss.
He did not give one to her,
But patted her cheek instead.

Off he rode with greatness,
saing "I will return at noon.'
And off he rode with swiftness,
whistleing a merry tune.

They lived on normal lives,
their minds waiting for noon to come.
When a footman suddenly shouted,
'The princes bride had been won!'

Cheers came from every person,
but all she had was tears.
His lie to come at noon
was now very clear.

But a midnight at her home,
a tap at the door came.
'Send her out to me.'
she heard a man's voice say.

Wrapping cloak around her shoulders
and shoes upon her feet,
she stepped into the darkness,
wondering who she would meet.

In the glow of one candle,
her lovers face appeared.
'I did not mean to hurt you.
Alone I call you dear.'

She shook her head in silence,
tears slipping down her cheeks.
And in a heart riping voice she said
'Never again will we meet.'

When he tried to embrace her,
she simply pushed away.
He opened his mouth to talk, but she said
'Don't bother saying anything.'

So in tears they both went home
and again they never met.
But for the rest of their lives
their hearts were intangled in stiff nets.

Yet one night on her doorstep,
ten years af-ter,
she found a single rose.
Addressed from him to her.

Hmm...A rather sad poem, but well written and rhymed. Was this one of Noyses' poems? It's very advanced for a 12 year old, but hey, when I was your age I read Life of Pi. Go figure Smile

No Cheez, this is mine. I wrote it in about 30-45 minutes, maybe an hour. I wrote it outside, so I don't really know. In our big red litature textbook for school, go to page 565 and you'll find 'The Highwayman' by Alfred Noyes. By the way, anyone out there got an idea for the title of this poem? ANY? After all, how can a poem go unnamed? What do you think of
Thy Princes Love (the title of a similar, shorter, not as good poem I wrote)
Any name that might have something to do with roses, liars, etc. Would have a connection with this poem.
Abandoned Love (randomly thought)
Rose of (unknown name)

Thank you for any ideas!

I wouldn't suggest Thy Princes Love, because thy means your. So I think you might call it A Princes love, or something to do with the flower at the end Smile

Aww... This was the poem you were telling me about a few weeks earlier. Wow... You really know how to write something. There is never a dull moment when you're around (not to mention with a pencil and paper). Very Happy Keep it up!
